Summer may not be here just yet, but the warm temperatures certainly are! Fortunately, DeLand and the surrounding areas offer us plenty of ways to get out and cool down. We’re sharing just a few of them below.

Jump in the pool

When it comes to cooling down on a hot day, there are few better (or easier) options than simply jumping into the pool. If you have a backyard pool, make your day extra special by hosting an impromptu dinner outdoors complete with fun tropical drinks and tasty finger foods.

Don’t have a pool nearby? Don’t worry—DeLand’s YMCA offers classes and swimming time in their pool, so that’s always an option to consider for hot summer days or day programs for your child.

Enjoy drinks and a cool breeze on the St. Johns

Drinks and a cool breeze may not be quite as immersive as getting into the water… but if you need to cool off and relax, it comes very close! Head to the Shady Oak Restaurant on the St. Johns River for a tasty meal and drinks with friends, all while overlooking the beautiful river.

Spend a day at Blue Spring State Park

Blue Spring State Park is known for its multitude of manatees—but even though manatee season is winding down, there is still plenty to enjoy at this local landmark. You can go swimming or snorkeling in the park’s crystal clear spring, or enjoy a day of tubing, fishing or kayaking with friends. It’s your pick at Blue Spring!

Cool off with a sweet treat

On a hot day, your taste buds need to cool off, too! Rodeo Whip Ice Cream, located on Main Street, is the perfect place to enjoy time with family and friends with your sweet treat of choice.

Go boating

If you’re a boater, now is the perfect time to dust off your boat and enjoy all the aquatic opportunities DeLand has to offer! If not, the city has you covered. You can enjoy the experience all the same by renting a boat or kicking back for an exciting airboat ride on St. Johns River.

Eat under the shade in Downtown DeLand

Downtown DeLand is home to a wealth of high quality restaurants, cafes and coffee shops—most with comfortable, shaded outdoor seating. These are the perfect spots for those who want to cool down, while still enjoying the ambiance and excitement only outdoor dining can afford.

Head to one of several local museums

While a day at the museum may not seem like a traditional warm weather activity, it might be just what you need as a break from the heat outdoors. With several choices—for those interested in art, history… you name it! –there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

We hope to see you out and about in DeLand this summer. While the temperatures may be high, there’s always a fun and easy way to cool off right around the corner—so be sure to enjoy it all!
